Magazine front cover and contents page

I kept mostly to my flat plan of the front cover. I used bright colours such as red and yellow to be eye catching, and made sure the image was the key thing the audience would see first. I chose the title because I knew it would be easy to remember, and it was to the point and simple. I put subheadings and other contents items down the side to interest the reader as well as the main item.

I kept my contents page exactly the same as my flat plan because I liked the way it led the eye across the page. I used the same bright colours on the contents page as I did for the front cover, as it could be a recognisable colour scheme for readers to remember.

Photos

I will be using this image because the person is looking directly at the camera, and because there is a blank background, so nothing detracts from the main image. It is taken from mid chest up. There is no angle because had i put the subject in a low or high angle shot, it would say something different from what I might have been trying to say about his status. It is quite well lighted and the person is clearly visible.

I am not using this image because the person is not looking at the camera, so the reader may feel that they cant identifiy with the story, or person involved. The background is quite bright and therefore overpowering, so it detracts from the main subject of the photo.

Flat plans for college magazine

This is the image of a flat plan I made for my college magazine. I put the large image on the right because it is the main feature and in that position it is eye catching. The person will be looking directly at the camera. other main articles will be featured down the left hand side of the cover because that is where the eye looks first, so those important items will be noticed. The logo and magazine name will be clearly at the top in a familiar font so it is easily recognisable. I put the text about the image below it so it is clear that that is what it is about, and what it is linked to. The bar code and issue number is in the bottom left hand corner because only select members of the target audience will want to see these, and it is not a key feature in the selling of the magazine, and it isnt too eye catching where I have put it.
I chose to use this layout because I think that it is less boring than writing all the way down one side. I like that the images break up the text a bit, and I think that it helps they eye travel across the page a little bit easier.
